For 145 years, Mercy Home has nurtured persons in need. Today, we support persons with developmental disabilities in living full and interesting lives. We do this in our residential, supportive and respite programs, each of which emphasizes the importance of being part of the communities in which one lives.

If you have never heard of Mercy Home, thanks for visiting our website, and welcome…
If you are an old friend, we are delighted that you are a part of our Mercy Home family and hope you enjoy these pages.

We invite you to “come and see” our programs and hope that our website presentation whets your appetite for doing so.

We are empowered daily to fulfill the mission of Mercy Home through our Core Values of Respect, Trust, Care and Compassion and Teamwork.

Mercy Home is dedicated to serving persons of all races and creeds who are developmentally disabled. This dedication is grounded in the belief that, as members of the family of God:

All people have a right to a life with dignity and purpose

All people have a right to an education which will help them reach their fullest potential

All people have a need to love and be loved

It is the mission of Mercy Home to assure the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities through the recognition of each person’s inherent dignity and absolute right to a life filled with learning and love.

Mercy Home for Children is a Sanctuary® agency.

In 2008, Mercy Home for Children received a grant to train its staff and implement the Sanctuary Model into its programs. The Sanctuary ® Model represents an effort to promote cultural changes that will effectively provide consumers and employees with an environment of safety, support and trust. The Sanctuary® Model consists of 7 Commitments which all staff, volunteers and consumers abide by;

A commitment to Nonviolence-understanding what different forms of trauma are and how it effects children and adults

A commitment to Emotional Intelligence to promote and increase self awareness

A commitment to Social Learning-promoting a therapeutic teaching and learning environment

A commitment to Shared Governance-developing a community of shared decision making and discussion.

A commitment to Open Communication-to be courageous enough to speak openly and honestly and resolve problems in a supportive manner.

A commitment to Social Responsibility-developing a therapeutic community of justice, fair play, and responsibility,

A commitment to Growth and Change-developing a community of creativity, imagination and hope for a better future.

Mercy Home for Children is a tax exempt organization (501)(c)3 listed in the Official Catholic Directory. This exemption derives from the fact that, as a private non-sectarian child caring agency supervised by the Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community, Mercy Home for Children comes under the umbrella exemption granted to the Untied States Catholic Conference. As a private, non-sectarian agency, the administration of Mercy Home for Children and funds for its programs are independent of the Catholic Church and Catholic Charities.
